Tyler Speck: Junior Herdsman of the Year

Tyler Speck is the son of Jason and M’linda Speck of Chehalis, Wash. His dad, Jason, was not willing to purchase an animal until Tyler showed a desire to show cattle. “At four years old, Tyler would hook a rope on the laundry basket and show it like he was showing a heifer,” stated Jason. That’s when a passion for the cattle industry took off for Tyler.

Since the family was already involved in the Limousin breed, Tyler started showing Limousin cattle at the age of five and his first Limousin heifer was purchased from his grandpa. He attended his first National Junior Limousin Show and Congress (NJLSC) in 2017 in Grand Island, Neb. Since then, he has not missed a single NJLSC and has enjoyed traveling all over the county and meeting Limousin juniors with the same passion for the industry.

Today, Tyler has his own small cow/calf operation of Lim-Flex cattle. He plans to continue producing quality Limousin cattle with phenotype and genotype. From county fairs to junior nationals, Tyler has learned the importance of hard work, genetics, and feed programs, and his passion for Limousin cattle grows with each show. Tyler takes great pride in his own stock and has developed an incredible herd of cattle with superior genetics that he shows and exhibits at local and national level shows.

The Limousin breed and the show world family has shaped Tyler into the man he is today, and he hopes to keep giving back to the industry. With the knowledge he has gained, he tries to pass what he was taught down to the younger generations and help anyone that needs it along the way.
