Scholarship Winner Spotlight

Alexa016Our first scholarship winner spotlight goes to Alexa Montagne. Alexa was a recipient of the Ron and Carolyn Holland Scholarship, the Heartland Limousin Scholarship, and the Donna Etherton Limi Boosters Scholarship at the 2017 Junior Nationals. Alexa has been involved in NALJA since a young age, where she attended her first junior national at four years old.

Her many years of showing and looking for seedstock to show and bulls to use on her cows honed her livestock evaluation skills, which led her to attend Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, OK on a livestock judging scholarship. While at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, Alexa is studying Agribusiness with a minor in Animal Science. She then plans to attend law school and start her own law practice. She is involved in livestock judging, Aggie Society, Young Farmers and Ranchers Club. Alexa’s favorite activity is livestock judging, where she spends a lot of time evaluating livestock at shows, fairs, ranches and farms across the country, as well as traveling to 5 states to compete in contests this year. She encourages incoming freshmen to “maximize their college experience. From attending class and gaining the most knowledge possible to finding an activity you like, make the most of every experience.”

While Alexa has attended thirteen junior nationals, her favorite was in 2015 held in Tulsa, OK, because she made a lot of new friends that she still stays in touch with. To pass time on the long rides to junior nationals, Alexa studies for the satellite events. A fun fact about Alexa is that she has been wearing the same size jeans since the seventh grade.

Congratulations on your scholarship winnings, Alexa!
