Thursday, April 5th through Saturday, April 7th, the North American Limousin Junior Association Board had the opportunity to attend the 2018 Youth Beef Industry Congress held in Wooster, Ohio. This year, it was hosted by Weaver Leather Livestock and Certified Angus Beef.
We began YBIC with a welcome from the CEO of Weaver Leather Livestock, Jason Weaver. He discussed the importance of leadership, character, and work ethic as it pertains to your everyday life and the areas in which you spend your time. We also had the pleasure of participating in A’ric Jackson’s leadership workshop. During this time, we were able to learn not only more about ourselves as leaders, but our fellow board members. We learned how to work with people of different personalities, and how to utilize everyone’s strengths in order to become more efficient as a board. On the last day of tours, we traveled back to Weaver for a tour of the facility and had breakout sessions on becoming leaders who people want to follow, and how to be successful within our own areas. Lastly, we toured Certified Angus Beef. Here, we were able to learn more about the beef industry from a marketing standpoint.
Saturday, the NALJA board held its spring board meeting. We discussed this summer’s Junior Nationals show, and we could not be more excited to spend it with our Limousin family.
YBIC was an opportunity to allow the board to grow as leaders and develop skills that we will use every day. We enjoyed being able to network with other breed associations, state beef associations, and cattlemen’s organizations. We hope to be successful and influential as a board, and events like these allow us to grow and do so.
