2025 Dick O’Brien Herdsmanship Award Winner
This year’s winner has been a member of NALJA since 2014. She has actively shown her bred and owned cattle and participated in junior activities at every Eastern Regional Junior Limousin Show and Limousin Nationals Show since then. For three years she served on the NALJA board as a director and as secretary. Supporting other juniors by helping with their cattle and helping them feel welcome to the association has been one of her favorite parts of showing cattle. She has played an integral part in winning the Small State Herdsmanship Award for Virginia in 3 different years.
The Dick O’Brien Herdsmanship award recognizes a superior job in caring for animals, interacting with the public and others, and demonstrating maturity. This recipient has served as an excellent role model for the juniors and has been a superior representative for the Limousin breed across the country.
She has won Grand Champion Bred and Owned Limousin Female for several years in a row at Eastern Regionals as well Grand Champion Lim-flex Cow-calf pair in 2015 and Third Overall Female at Limousin Junior Nationals in 2024. She was in top ten showmen many times and in 2024 third overall senior showman. She was active in her 4-H chapter and played softball and volleyball all while showing cattle across the nation.
This year our award winner worked two jobs and finished her college degree while managing her show cattle to get ready for the summer of showing. She graduated from Virginia Tech in Biological Sciences and plans to pursue a career in medicine.
Congratulations to Samantha Moore! We will miss her being a NALJA member but know she will continue supporting the Limousin breed as a NALF member.
