A New Chapter on the Horizon

Written by Eliza Truel, NALJA Ex-Offcio

As I get ready to graduate college and step into the next stage of life, I’ve found myself looking back at where I’ve been and, more importantly, the people and experiences that helped me get here. Of course, the Limousin breed has been at the center of so much of my journey—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Working with Limousin cattle has taught me more than I ever expected. They’ve shown me the value of patience, the reward of consistency, and the importance of resilience when things don’t always go as planned. In a way, they’ve been some of my best teachers—reminding me that growth takes time, progress comes through effort, and strength isn’t always loud, but steady and dependable.

But beyond the cattle, it’s the people in the Limousin community who have truly made a difference in my life. I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by mentors who shared their wisdom, families who welcomed me with open arms at shows, and friends who turned into family along the way. Those relationships have been such a source of encouragement, laughter, and support. When I think about what makes this breed so special, it isn’t just the cattle—it’s the people who care for them and for each other.

Graduation feels a little like standing at the gate to new opportunities: open, full of possibility, and maybe a little uncertain at first. But thanks to my time in the Limousin breed, I feel ready for whatever comes next. The lessons, the friendships, and the memories I’ve gained here will always be part of who I am, no matter where life takes me.

This isn’t the end of the story—it’s simply the start of a new chapter. And as I move forward, I’ll carry the Limousin spirit with me: strong, adaptable, and always grounded in community. For that, I am deeply thankful.
